How did your interest in the intersections between social law and medical law develop and what fascinates you about these areas?
I was already interested in law and medicine when I was at school, and the connection between health insurance and care law arose in my private life as well as during my studies. This was joined in pension law by disability pensions, which play a major role in statutory and private pension insurance. The fascination here lies in the interplay between law and medicine as well as the effects of different illnesses and different clauses. Every case is different, every case is unique. This makes my daily work exciting and challenging.
What fascinates you about data protection? How did you come to develop your career in this direction?
I have been very interested in data protection in the healthcare system since my studies, but there were hardly any books or courses on the subject. That's why I started with the basic standards and initially became a certified data protection officer. With the mandates in healthcare law, however, mostly also came mandates on data protection in healthcare law, on the side of insured persons and patients, but also on the side of doctors, clinics and care services.
What motivated you to complete the Data Science in Health certificate program with us?
I saw an appealing certificate program with renowned speakers whose topics fascinated me. I was also motivated by the opportunity to think outside the box. In addition, the campus of Goethe University Frankfurt is one of the most beautiful in Europe.
What specific knowledge and skills were you able to acquire through the program?
I have gained a very good overview and deeper insights into the most diverse areas of health data. My understanding of data protection, software programming, and the analysis of health data has truly improved.
How do you think the program will affect your work in the field of social and medical law?
It already does every day! Through my deeper understanding of the use of data science in healthcare, I can now analyze more precisely how health data must be processed, utilized, and protected. This is particularly beneficial in my consulting practice, as an increasing number of legal issues arise at the intersection of medical law, data protection, and social law. My expanded knowledge enables me to develop practical solutions that are both legally and technically well-founded.
Can you give examples of how data science can increasingly help solve legal issues in the healthcare sector in the future?
Unfortunately, there are no individual examples because data science is omnipresent. Data is the solution to all legal issues. This certificate program is indispensable for understanding this data and the background even better.
Do you already have specific projects or initiatives in mind that you would like to implement after completing the program?
Of course! But these are subject to my legal duty of confidentiality!
