This course provides essential knowledge on how digitalization enhances business processes. It covers core process management skills, including process modeling and performance analysis, and teaches students how to use established modeling techniques to analyze complex processes. Students will explore the practical application of these techniques in digital transformation, comparing methods and evaluating their effectiveness. The course also discusses key concepts like object-oriented vs. subject-oriented modeling and examines real-world examples, such as process guidance and process mining. Hands-on sessions with industry tools (e.g., ARIS, MS Visio) enable students to actively model processes, equipping them with a solid understanding of the potential, challenges, and limitations of digitalizing business processes.

Prof. Dr. Julia Krönung
Julia Krönung has been a university professor of business administration, in particular the design of socio-technical information systems, at the FernUniversität Hagen since 2022. She completed her doctorate at Goethe University Frankfurt and was subsequently Junior Professor at the University of Mannheim and Senior Professor of Information Systems at EBS University. Her research focuses on socio-technical system design, IT acceptance, digital diversity and digital ethics. In her research projects, she examines organizational processes from a socio-technical perspective with the aim of reducing barriers for and resistance in users. A special focus is on digitally disadvantaged user groups. She is author/co-author of numerous research articles published in the Journal of the Association of Information Systems, Journal of Business Ethics and Information&Management, among others. Julia Krönung teaches several modules in the Digital Transformation MBA at GBS with great success.
