The Digital Transformation of organizations will be an ongoing change and challenge for the next years to come. This course will provide students with the knowledge and competencies required for making this change happen. More specifically, project and performance management skills are required to understand how digital strategy and strategic goals are turned into corporate reality.
The course covers basic and advanced project and performance management concepts required for digital transformation initiatives. It will also present, discuss, and apply modern project and performance management methods. We emphasize methods that enable and accelerate organizational technological, organizational, and cultural transformation. The course will comprise lectures, group exercises/presentations, and mini-workshops.
- Transferring digital strategy into programs, portfolios, and projects
- Translating strategic goals into objectives and key results (OKRs)
- Mastering agile project management methods and frameworks (SCRUM, Kanban)
- Understanding advanced agility concepts (e.g., scaled agile, agile culture)
- Preparing for SCRUM certification
- Storytelling presentations
- Understand the connection between digital transformation strategies, programs, project portfolios, and project management
- Understand and apply the OKR (Objectives and Key Results) approach as performance management methodology
- Learn the principles and mechanics behind agile project management
- Work in agile projects using SCRUM as the predominant framework
- Understand advanced agility concepts (Scaled Agile, Agile Mindset)
- Understand prerequisites for successful certification as a SCRUM Master and Product Owner
- Use storytelling in team presentations

Prof. Dr. Alexander Benlian
Professor Alexander Benlian is the Director of the Endowed Chair for Information Systems & Electronic Services at TU Darmstadt. Previously, he was at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich and declined a 2015 chair offer from the University of Cologne. With two years as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, he now also teaches MBA courses in Digital Transformation Management at Goethe Business School. His research explores digital innovation's impact on business models, workplace transformation, and human-AI collaboration. Prof. Benlian collaborates globally on research and consulting projects and is an entrepreneurship trainer with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). His work appears in top journals, and he consistently ranks among the top 1% of Information Systems scholars worldwide.
